Chris Harris Really is a Donkey

Autocar journalist Chris Harris has been known to not like the Mazda MX5, even calling it dirty words in an article a few years back. Now he attempts to support his opinions by swapping his Ferrari 599 with Cameraman and Editor Neil Carey’s NA Mazda.

Once again, this pompous, annoying man entirely misses the point as he tries to compare the world’s best selling sports car with the most expensive motors money can buy. For most ordinary people, the MX5 is by far the best value driver’s car on the market and over 900,000 happy owners can’t be wrong!

MX5 is Britain’s Most Reliable Car

In its annual reliability survey of more than 50,000 cars What Car? magazine has confirmed that the iconic Mazda MX5 sports car is the most reliable car in Britain. MX5s manufactured since 2005 recorded a failure rate of just four percent – the lowest of all cars in the 2012 survey – compared to the next nearest open-top competitor at 15 percent.  With 96 percent of these Mazda models being fault-free, the MX5 also achieved an impressive Reliability Index (RI) score of just eight (the lower score, the better the car), while the national average score for individual models was 100.  According to the survey, MX5 owners also benefit from the lowest repair costs with an average repair bill of just £165.

The survey calculates a vehicle’s Reliability Index (RI) from several factors – the number of times it fails, the cost of repair, the average time it spends off the road being repaired, its age and mileage.
“It’s no surprise that the MX5 scored so highly in the What Car? annual survey,” comments David Wilson-Green, Aftersales Director, Mazda UK.  “The Mazda MX5 has won many awards over the years and regularly achieves excellent reviews in the national media for the pure driving enjoyment it provides and its distinctive good looks.  Our Japanese brand is renowned for its engineering expertise and for its remarkably reliable models, which is one of the reasons we have so many loyal customers.”

“For more than 20 years the two-seater MX5 has captured the hearts of motorists, earning its accolade as the ‘world’s best-selling two-seater sports car.  Owners are often attracted to its stylish design and invigorating drive, but Mazda’s renowned reliability has played a major role in its longevity, something the What Car? Magazine survey endorses in the September edition.”

Honest John Readers Love the MX5

The Mazda MX5 has been named ‘Most Popular Convertible’ at the 2012 Honest John Awards, adding yet another accolade to the model’s ever-expanding trophy cabinet. Judging for the awards was based on which car reviews on the Honest John website have been read the most. The Mazda MX5 took class honours ahead of a shortlist which also included the Volkswagen Eos, BMW 3-Series Convertible, BMW Z4 and Fiat 500C. Honest John described the Mazda MX5 as ‘a great sportscar’, praising in particular its handling abilities, ease of use and low running costs, while the website features many more glowing reviews from owners of the car.
“This award confirms that the Mazda MX5 remains a resounding hit among the British public,” said Jeremy Thomson, Managing Director for Mazda UK. “In spite of a growing number of competitors in this sector, the consistent level of praise for the MX5 – from journalists and motorists alike – marks it out as the ideal all-year-round convertible.”
