MX5 Top Sports Car in J D Power Survey

The world’s best-selling roadster, the Mazda MX5 has been ranked the highest sports car in the 2011 JD Power vehicle ownership satisfaction survey, published last week. With almost 17,000 motorists from across the UK taking part in the highly-respected annual survey, owners of Mazda’s iconic two-seater rated their cars well above the competition for its driving dynamics, handling, low ownership costs, mechanical reliability and interior quality.

Remarkably, the Mazda MX5 notched up a satisfaction rating of 82.4 percent, an increase on its score from last year and an even greater margin of victory over its rivals than in 2010. The MX5 beat the Volkswagen Scirocco, Audi TT, and Mercedes-Benz CLK and SLK.

This is not the first time that the Mazda MX-5 has been successful in the JD Power Survey. Reporting on this year’s survey results, What Car? magazine commented: “The MX-5 proves that sports cars don’t need to be sophisticated, luxurious or expensive to be fun-to-drive. Mazda’s MX5 has been commended in the past and this year its margin of victory is even bigger than it was in 2010.”

“Today, the Mazda MX5 remains unrivalled as a rewarding sports car that can also be used for everyday motoring all year round,” said Peter Allibon, Sales Director, Mazda UK. “This JD Power survey result shows that MX5 owners simply love their cars, and it is little wonder that the MX5 continues to break records as the world’s best-selling roadster.”

It’s Show Shine Time!

I have more beauty products on my garage shelf than my wife has on her dressing table, and the latest addition to the MX5 care kit is an all-round spray polish from Autoglym.

I have always been a bit cautious of aerosols because they seem to go everywhere but this polish is versatile, easy to use and makes even black cars shine like Paul Simon’s National guitar!

After washing and leathering the MX5 I applied this stuff and the results were remarkable; the car looks absolutely fabulous. It is also reasonably priced and goes a long way.  Autoglym make really high quality car care products and I would strongly recommend this one, watch the video to see more:

You’re in the Army Now

The US Army sponsors the world record-holding Top Fuel dragster team? Oh yes it does! The Generals feel that the skill and teamwork involved in drag racing epitomise the standards their soldiers should reach in battle. Led by their driver Tony, “the Sarge” Schumacher the team has dominated the sport for the past seven years and their standing quarter record of  4.428 seconds and terminal speed of 337.58 mph has stood since 2006. Watch this incredible car as it sets the world record for the standing quarter at Brainerd, Minnesota:

You are riding a £200,000 Honda MotoGP bike. Over a mile up the road a Top Fuel dragster is ready to launch down a quarter mile strip as you pass. You have the advantage of a flying start.
You run the bike hard up through the gears and blast across the starting line and past the dragster at 200 mph.
At that moment the dragster launches and starts after you.You keep your wrist cranked hard, but you hear an incredibly brutal whine that sears your eardrums and within 3 seconds the dragster catches and passes you. He beats you to the finish line, a quarter mile away from where you just passed him. His terminal speed is around 330mph.

Now THAT is fast!
